1. Department requests country clearance for Office of Korean
Affairs Director Sung Kim and NSC Asia Director of Chinese
Affairs Paul Haenle to travel to Seoul and Beijing en route
to Pyongyang for consultations related to the Six-Party Talks
from January 29 - February 3. Travelers will arrive Seoul
January 29, travel to Beijing January 30, travel to Pyongyang
January 31, return to Beijing February 2 and depart Beijing
February 3. Embassy Seoul Public Affairs Section staff
member Kwon Min-ji will accompany Kim and Haenle from Seoul
to Beijing to Pyongyang and will return to Beijing en route
to Seoul.


2. FOR EMBASSY SEOUL: Department requests Embassy Seoul
arrange accommodations in Seoul for January 29, name a
control officer, and provide administrative support as needed
for Kim and Haenle. Department thanks post for its
assistance.


3. FOR EMBASSY BEIJING: Department requests that Embassy
Beijing arrange accommodations in Beijing, with dates as
indicated in para 4. Department also requests that Embassy
Beijing name a control officer and provide administrative
support as needed. Please arrange for airport meet and
assist. Please provide cell phones and activate classified
log-ons for Kim and Haenle. Department thanks post for all
assistance.
