Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
The United States welcomes the news of the recent arrest in
Serbia of Radovan Karadzic, who is wanted by the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
(ICTY) for crimes committed during the 1992-1995 war in
Bosnia and Herzegovina. Karadzic is accused of genocide,
crimes against humanity, murder, deportation and war crimes,
including involvement in the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica.
We applaud the Government of Serbia for this demonstration of
the new government,s commitment to cooperate with the ICTY.
This is an important step towards justice for the victims of
the Bosnian war.
We urge all authorities in the region to do all that they can
to apprehend and transfer the two remaining ICTY fugitives )
Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
