RE-RUN OF EARLY PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS
1. (U) Post is authorized to present the following statement
at the June 19th Permanent Council meeting in Vienna.
Begin text:
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
The United States welcomes the news that the re-run of Early
Parliamentary elections in Macedonia on June 15th appeared to
be substantially better than the June 1st round of elections.
The improved security environment for voters was encouraging;
however we note with disappointment that there were once
again some serious irregularities in some polling stations.
We urge Macedonia to continue investigating those responsible
for the violence and irregularities that characterized the
election period. This would demonstrate Macedonia,s
continuing commitment to democratic values and rule of law.
