¶1. Department requests mission clearance for Africa Bureau
DAS James Swan and AF/E Director James Knight to
travel to New York to meet with UN Under Secretary General
for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe. Swan and Knight will
discuss Pascoe's initiative regarding the Ethiopia-Eritrea
boundary dispute and other issues preventing the
normalization of relations between those countries.
Department requests that USUN set up the meeting with
Pascoe's office for January 24, attend the meeting at the
appropriate level, and report back to Washington on the
outcome.
¶2. Swan and Knight will arrive in New York on the morning of
January 24 and will depart the same day.
¶3. Both Swan and Knight have TOP SECRET clearances.
RICE
