On behalf of Secretary Rice, I am replying to your letter of
January 31, 2008 regarding Hungary's candidacy for the
non-permanent seat of the United Nations Security Council for
the term 2012-13.
The United States applauds the participation of the

twice as a non-permanent member. The United States
acknowledges your firm dedication to development co-operation

Security Council. We welcome the opportunity to consider
Hungary's candidacy for the Security Council. However, as a
matter of long-standing United States practice, the United
States does not disclose its vote in the United Nations
elections either before or after the balloting.
Accept, Madam Foreign Minister, the renewed assurances of my
highest consideration.
