CONSERVATION

(C) Kudos to Embassy Rangoon for outstanding reporting on
Biodiversity Conservation in Rangoon 115. This cable is an
excellent example of how a small grant and determined public
awareness efforts can advance diplomatic engagement by
working with dedicated park rangers and teachers even in a
delicate and difficult context. The protection of Southeast
Asian dry forest habitats and their wildlife has been given a
huge boost from the Embassy's engagement in protecting the
buffer zone of Shwesetaw Wildlife Sanctuary and related
public awareness strategies, and as Embasy Rangoon noted, has
also provided post with access to poor, rural Burmese. OES
thanks post for its efforts and encourages further discussion
and reporting on post's successful use of ESTH diplomacy.
