This is an Action Request. See paragraphs 2-4.
¶2. The Department's Office of Defense Trade Controls
Compliance (PM/DTCC) requests AIT Taipei's assistance in
conducting a pre-license check on application 05-050086782
for the export of microwave filters to Taiwan. AIT Taipei is
requested to complete this Blue Lantern within 30 days. Lack
of response to a Blue Lantern inquiry will affect pending and
future licenses involving parties to this license.
¶3. Reason for request: Watchlisted end-user; foreign
consignee and foreign intermediate consignee have never been
subject of Blue Lantern inquiries.
¶4. Action: Department requests that AIT Taipei make
inquiries to establish the bona fides of Burnaby Industries
Co. Ltd. and Step Electronics Taiwan Ltd. in the proposed
transaction. Conduct site visits to assess the companies'
reliability as recipients of United States Munitions List
(USML) articles as well as their operations and on-site
security. If site visits are not possible, please inform
PM/DTCC case officer. Also, confirm with the end-user that
it ordered the listed items for the purpose stated on the
application.
