1. This is an Action Request. See paragraphs 2-4.


2. The Department's Office of Defense Trade Controls
Compliance (PM/DTCC) requests Embassy's assistance in
conducting a post-shipment check on license 050110498 for the
export of accelerometers to Japan. Embassy is requested to
complete this Blue Lantern check within 45 days. Lack of
response to a Blue Lantern check will affect pending and
future licenses involving parties to this license.


3. Reason for request: Sensitive Commodity


4. ACTION: Embassy is requested to make inquiries with
appropriate host government officials to determine if the
Japan MOD has received the accelerometers and that the
articles are being used for the purpose stated on the
license. Export data indicates that items worth $29,400
shipped from the United States on August 4, 2008. Post is
requested to exercise its contacts within the Japan MOD to
verify this order.

PURPOSE:

Parts will be used in the North Finding System (NFS) for the
Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) upgrade program in Japan.
Patriot has a range of 15km, weight of 312kg and a
hit-to-kill warhead with lethality enhancer of 73kg
high-explosive blast/fragmentation with proximity fuse.
