SOFIA 00077 Poloff spoke with the head of the Bulgarian delegation to the Vienna Forum, National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings Executive Secretary, Antoaneta Vassileva on Feb. 8th. Bulgaria is a country of origin and transit, and to a lesser extent, a designation, for trafficking. Rather than focusing on political declarations, Vassileva said that international parties should focus their attention on identifying new funds for anti-trafficking activities in countries of origin, better coordination of efforts between countries of origin and countries of destination, identification of victims, and addressing demand side factors. Vassileva said that in the past, efforts have focused on prevention, prosecution, and investigation. She repeatedly emphasized that this is insufficient and that the trafficking issues in countries of origin cannot be addressed fully without better international coordination. Beyrle
