PolOff delivered reftel demarche to Ministry of Foreign
Affairs East Asian, Australian and Oceanic Directorate Expert
Vera Stefanova on May 22. Stefanova said that the Bulgarian
government is very concerned about the situation in Burma
following the deadly Cyclone Nargis and that the Bulgarians
have undertaken steps to join the international community in
providing assistance to the affected population in this
country. The competent Bulgarian authorities are discussing
the issue of providing financial aid from Bulgaria to Burma
to be extended through the relevant international mechanism
within the framework of the UN or EU. Stefanova promised to
inform Post once an official decision has been made.
Bulgaria has not received an invitation for the Donors
Conference and will not participate. POLOFF also delivered
reftel demarche to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Human Rights
Expert, Christina Yotova.
