Ms. Doytchinova said Bulgaria supports US-EU cooperation on climate change to reduce greenhouse gases and invest in renewable energy resources. She stated Bulgaria is committed to the EC's comprehensive legislative proposal to establish a new energy policy for Europe to combat climate change and boost energy security and competitiveness of the EU. This package will be discussed during the March 13-14 meeting of the European Council. Doytchinova said Bulgaria must reach a target of 16 percent of energy consumption based on renewables by 2020, as part of the EU-wide effort to reduce greenhouse gasses by at least 20 percent by 2020. She said the EU would like to see a 30 percent cut in emissions from developed countries by 2020. Beyrle
