(C) Poloff urged MFA International Organizations Deputy
Director Daryl Sng on September 8 that Singapore: not support
"no action" motions in the Third Committee of the UN General
Assembly; support planned resolutions on human rights
situations in Burma, North Korea and Iran; oppose or abstain
on "defamation of religions" resolutions; and convey to us
Singapore's views on possible resolutions on Zimbabwe and the
prisoners of conscience issue (per reftel). Sng responded
that Singapore would likely maintain its long-held practice
of sticking to G-77 and NAM voting tendencies. However, Sng
said that he would report our specific points to his
superiors and that he would provide us with a formal GOS
response by Friday, September 12.
