On February 20, Post received Diplomatic Note number 41 dated February 7, from the Ministry of Foreign RELATIONS announcing Chile's candidate for the Committee on the Rights of the Child. Paragraph 2 contains Post's informal translation of diplomatic note ¶41. Paragraph 3 contains the candidate's curriculum vitae. ¶2. The Ministry of Foreign RELATIONS - Multilateral Policy Directorate - presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States of America, and has the honor to inform the Embassy that the Government of Chile has decided to present the candidacy of Mrs. Marta Mauras Perez to the Committee on the Rights of the Child, whose elections will take place in February 2009 at the United Nations in New York. This decision reflects the permanent interest of the Government of Chile, as a State Party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, to work on the protection of those rights, particularly to attend to their specific needs and to continue to contribute to efforts, together with those of the international community, to generate more inclusive and comprehensive changes that make possible the strengthening of social, family and individual responsibilities. Mrs. Marta Mauras, with a degree in Sociology, has a broad and recognized career at the United Nations, particularly at UNICEF, where she was Regional Director for Latin America. In addition, she has served at the Secretariat of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) as member of its executive team and head of intergovernmental POLITICAL affairs, information and policy on women and gender. She is currently UNICEF Special Envoy for Latin America, member of the Chilean Council on Foreign Affairs and member of the Council of Directors of the Observatory of Public Policy on Childhood. In the framework of the RELATIONS of friendship and cooperation that unite our two countries, the Government of Chile solicits the valuable support of the Government of the United States of America for this candidacy.
