1. (U) Econoff delivered reftel A points to Mario Gallardo,
Deputy Director for Trade Policy, Ministry of Economy, on
April 10. Gallardo replied that he would consult with El
Salvador's Mission in Geneva, which currently handles all
World Trade Organization (WTO) issues. (NOTE: Because the
Trade Policy office is fully occupied with ongoing
negotiations on the Central American-European Union
Association Agreement, the Ministry of Economy has delegated
most WTO responsibilities to Geneva (reftel B). END NOTE)
2. (U) On April 14, Gallardo notified Econoff that the
Salvadoran Mission in Geneva was still studying the U.S.
proposal and would notify the U.S. Mission in Geneva of its
final decision. Post will report any additional substantive
response.
