Polcouns met with MFA Director General Werner Romero
September 16 to promote U.S. priorities for the September 26
Community of Democracies (CD) Ministerial, as per reftel.
Romero told Polcouns that El Salvador will be represented at
the CD Ministerial, but has yet to select the attendee.
Romero expressed support for Portugal's efforts as Chair of
the CD, though he was more noncommittal about Lithuania as
the next CD Chair. Romero said the GOES was particularly in
favor of strengthening the UN Democracy Fund and engaging the
UN Democracy Caucus in order to pursue the CD's goals.
