underscored U.S. support for Turkey's EU aspirations and
noted our concern that the pending case in Turkey's
Constitutional Court against the Justice and Development
Party not derail Turkey's forward European momentum.
Esposito said Italy and the U.S. were in complete agreement
on EU accession for Turkey, and said that the outcome of the
pending constitutional case would not alter Italian support
for Turkey's accession.
