ASSISTANCE CONFERENCE IN BERLIN

(U) Econoff delivered reftel points concerning Liberian Aid
Conference in Berlin on June 12 to Fabrizio Nava, Director of the
office of Sub-Saharan Africa Assistance. Nava said that he would
attend the conference, but did not give specific information on an
Italian pledge. Econoff will follow-up with MFA officials regarding
GOI assistance to Africa in the coming months. Comment: Italy's new
government was sworn in on May 8 2008; new assistance priorities
especially concerning Africa are still being clarified. End
