1. (U) This is an action request. Please see paragraph 3.
2. (C) DCM delivered reftel points to MFA Director General
for Africa Armando Sanguini February 22 and sought Italian
concurrence on proposed changes to the International Contact
Group on Somalia. Sanguini said Swedish Ambassador Marike
Fahlen was supposed to discuss modifications to the U.S.
proposal with AF A/S Frazer in Washington. Sanguini said the
Swedish changes have European backing, and he inquired
whether A/S Frazer had had a chance to review them and
respond. Sanguini said Italy strongly supported efforts to
reinforce the ICG and wanted to work with the U.S. to make it
more effective.
3. (U) Post requests guidance on Department's position on the
Swedish proposal in order to respond to Italian inquiries.
