Office Director Andrea Cascone August 27. Cascone said Italy
opposes Serbia's proposal to seek an advisory opinion from
the International Court of Justice on the legality of
Kosovo's declaration of independence. Italy still holds out
for a possible common European position on the question, but
Cascone thought it was unlikely, given the internal divisions
on Kosovo within Europe. At the same time Italy is concerned
that actively lobbying against the Serbian resolution would
be problematic for Europe, a view he said Italy has already
expressed within the Quint.
