1. (C) Post has received a diplomatic note from the Saudi
Ministry of Foreign Affairs soliciting support for the Arab
Group's draft resolution on Israeli settlements. The dip
note contains the following text:
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United
States of AMERICA in Riyadh.
The Arab Group proposed a draft resolution to be
discussed at the International Security Council's meeting to
condemn the expansion of Israeli settlements. Since issuing
such a resolution emphasizes the United Nations' support and
shows its serious efforts to bring peace, the Ministry
respectfully wishes to inform the Embassy that the Ministry
looks forward to the United States' support for this
resolution.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs avails itself this
opportunity to renew to the Embassy the assurances of its
highest consideration."
