1. (U) Polloff delivered REF A demarche on August 26
regarding support for the UN Security Council statement
condemning the Mauritania Coup to Moroccan Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Chief of the Division of International
Organizations Ahmed Faouzi. Faouzi said that Morocco is
monitoring the situation in Mauritania closely but provided
no commitment to condemn the coup.
2. (C) Given previous statements by MFA Chief of Staff
Nassar Bourita on this issue (REF B),we do not anticipate
that Morocco will issue a statement to condemn the coup.
