(U) Poloff delivered reftel demarche regarding the
Russia-Georgia conflict on August 22 to Moroccan Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Chief of the Division of International
Organizations Ahmed Faouzi. Faouzi said Morocco was pleased
that the agreement calling for a cease-fire and withdrawal of
Russian troops in the disputed region was recently signed.
Faouzi stated that Morocco supports a quick resolution to the
conflict. He agreed to forward U.S. concerns to his
superiors and the Morocco mission in New York and to provide
any other information on the subject as it becomes available.
