(C) Ambassador, DCM, Consuls General, Section heads, and
working level staff engaged consistently throughout the year
with Zimbabwean civil society activists, opposition party
officials, political dissidents, businessmen and refugees
present in South Africa who continue to fight for their basic
human rights, including Zimbabweans' ability to participate
in a free and fair election without fear of violence or
intimidation. Most recently, Ambassador Bost, along with
Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi
Frazer and NSC Senior Director Bobby Pittman, hosted a dinner
for the leaders of Zimbabwe's main opposition party, the
Movement for Democratic Change, to reiterate USG support for
democratic change in Zimbabwe. Also, during the year, we
funded two shelters for Zimbabwean refugees via Refugee Fund
grants and used Democracy and Human Rights Fund monies to
support human rights education for farm workers in Limpopo
province, many of whom are Zimbabwean.
