1. (SBU) Czech Ministry of Interior official, Pavla
Fridrichova, will travel to Geneva tomorrow, June 17, to
represent the GOCR at the June 18 election for Director
General of the International Organization for Migration
(IOM). Fridrichova stated that the Czechs have decided to
wait until they have a chance to consult in Geneva with their
EU counterparts before they make a commitment to a specific
candidate. The Czechs are well aware of our position and
Fridrichova noted that she has received our multiple briefs
as well as readouts of our meetings with her colleagues in DC
and Geneva.
2. (SBU) While a decision will not be made until these
consultations have occurred, Fridrichova was able to say that
the only candidate that the Czechs have ruled out is Mr.
McKinley; Ambassador Swing is still under consideration.
