RESPONSE
REF: (A) SECSTATE 72078 (B) 07 PORT OF SPAIN 975
SENSITIVE BUT UNCLASSIFIED; PLEASE PROTECT ACCORDINGLY
1. (SBU) The MFA informed us July 16 that no decisions have
yet been made on who will attend the UNGA. A discussion with
the Prime Minister's Special Assistant returned a similar
response, including that no decision on the PM's travel has
yet been made.
2. (SBU) Comment: In 2007, the MFA only informed us of its
delegation composition shortly before the UNGA's opening (ref
b). While last year's local electoral calendar played a role
in the slow response, we anticipate that the GOTT will once
again only decide its delegation much closer to the event.
We will, however, continue to raise this question with
relevant officials.
