(C) On July 16, Francois Delmas, MFA strategic affairs desk
officer for Iraq, stated that France supports the expansion
of the NATO Training Mission-Iraq (NTM-I),so long as there
would be no deployment of French troops to Iraq. Delmas
stressed France's commitment to strengthening Iraqi
institutions, including in the security sector. He cited
France's contributions to the European Union's EUJUST LEX
training mission and France's willingness to continue to
welcome Iraqi security personnel for training in France.
France will continue to look for ways to assist in Iraqi
reconstruction and, following FM Kouchner,s two visits to
Iraq, is focused on possibly running more of its assistance
efforts out of the new French embassy office in Irbil.
