).
(C) MFA UN Desk Officer Anne-Laure Hare was unable on July
2 to provide an official response to ref A demarche on the
proposed Zimbabwe UNSC sanctions resolution, saying that the
matter would require further study. However, she said that
the French UN mission would receive formal instructions by
the time of the expected July 3 tabling of the draft
resolution. Hare noted with approval that the ref A draft
had incorporated earlier French suggestions and she said that
the inclusion of OP 3 (naming of a SYG Special
Representative) was a positive step. Speaking personally,
she said that there was nothing in the ref A draft that stood
out as objectionable and that at first glance it seemed fine.
She reminded, however, that the GOF would make known its
official views when the resolution is tabled and subject to
formal discussion.
