1. (U) Per reftels, EconOff delivered demarches "President's
Global Food Initiative" and "Request to End Food Staple
Export Restrictions," along with a copy of fact sheet
"Leading the Fight Against Hunger," to Terence Craig, head of
the Americas Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
(MFA) of the Government of Suriname. Craig had no immediate
reaction.
2. (U) EconOff also delivered a Dipnote to the MFA requesting
the Ministry forward a copy of the Aide Memoire, "Request to
End Food Staple Export Restrictions," to the Ministry of
Trade and Industry. The Ministry of Trade and Industry
instituted an export license requirement for rice exports on
April 29, despite a rice surplus in the country.
3. (U) Post will report any substantive reaction from the
Government of Suriname.
