1. (SBU) Reftel demarche was shared with the Pakistan desk
officer, Espen Rikter-Svendsen. His office is focused on the
case of a Norwegian-Pakistani citizen who has recently been
arraigned for murder in Pakistan and he did not have any
immediate comments. NOTE: Norway has a large Pakistani
immigrant population and there has been significant media
coverage of the recent events in Pakistan and several
memorial events in Bhutto's honor. Members of the Pakistani
community that talk to the press are supportive of free and
fair elections and a continued move towards a transparent
democracy in Pakistan.
