1. (C) Per reftel, on July 1 Post delivered demarche on
UNSCR sanctions against Iran Shipping Lines to Alexandros
Zenon, Permananet Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We
also sent copies to Makis Constantinides, Permanent
Secretary, Ministry of Communications; Christos Patsalides,
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance; Serghios Serghiou,
Department of Merchant Shipping; and Zeta Emilanidou,
Director of the Department of Customs and Excise.
2. (C) In a follow-up conversation, Marios Kountourides, the
working-level officer responsible for Iran at the MFA,
informed us that, as with all UNSCRs, Cyprus is required to
closely abide by this resolution and is already in the
process of taking measures to comply. The GOC is drafting a
report back to the UN regarding the measures it is taking to
comply with UNSCR 1803 within the 60-day deadline provided by
the resolution. Kountorides further stated that the GOC has
already submitted similar reports for previous related
resolutions (1737 and 1747).
