In a follow-up telcon June 6, Krousti offered thanks for our proposed language and promised to give it full consideration. She acknowledged that, on a handful of topics, the U.S. and European positions remained far apart, but refused to delve into a substantive discussion, especially on Missile Defense. On Cuba, however, she repeated what USEU colleagues already have noted -- that the Union will tackle lifting sanctions on Havana at the upcoming GAERC. "Numerous countries support a more flexible policy based on dialogue," Krousti explained. She refused, however, to reveal whether Cyprus fell into that camp (we suspect they do.) SCHLICHER
