Per reftel, POLOFF on February 22 demarched MFA official
Alkis Ieromanachou regarding possible Russian recognition of
Abkhazia. Ieromanachou asserted that Cyprus supported
Georgia's territorial integrity and would not recognize
Abkhazia's independence. The Russians understood Cypriot
sensitivities over secessionist entities, Ieromanachou
explained, and therefore have not lobbied the GOC in support
of their position.
