1. (C) This is an action request for SCA and ISN. Please see
para 3.
2. (C) Ministry of External Affairs Disarmament and
International Security Director Amandeep Singh Gill told
poloff in a June 11 telcon that India's Cabinet Committee on
Security decided June 10 to join the Global Initiative to
Combat Nuclear Terrorism. Gill said that he was working on
the endorsement letter as he spoke, but that the Indian
government would likely make the announcement during the week
of June 16. He requested that the U.S. keep the news quiet,
and wait for the Indian government to publicize the decision.
(Note: During a conversation on the margins of a conference,
Gill told poloff June 9 that joint activities on radiological
source security would be more likely to occur once India
joined the Global Initiative. End Note.)
3. (C) Action request: Gill asked about upcoming Global
Initiative activities in which India could participate; post
would appreciate a list of upcoming activities to provide to
the Indian government.
