1. (C) Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Disarmament and
International Security Director Amandeep Singh Gill told
poloffs May 21 that the Indian government would first
complete implementation of the UN Security Council
Resolutions (UNSCR) regarding Iran and then submit its UNSCR
1803 report. Gill related that MEA United Nations
(Political) Joint Secretary Sanjiv Arora had chaired an
interministerial meeting in April, during which the MEA
assigned "action points" to relevant ministries to ensure
that India had fulfilled the UNSCR requirements. Gill noted
that the April gathering had determined that the government
would not need instruments such as the International Economic
Emergency Powers Act (IEEPA). India would provide its UNSCR
1803 report after the Ministry of Home Affairs issues new
notifications regarding the individuals named in the 1803
Annex, which Gill said he expected in approximately two weeks.
