USAID OFDA Field Officer reported from Eastern Chad on the status of the deployment of the DIS (Integrated Security Detachments),the Chadian police and gendarmes trained by MINURCAT to provide security inside the refugee camps in Eastern Chad, to the field. ¶2. As of November 7, some 430 of the planned DIS force of 850 had been trained. Of those, 53 police and gendarme officers are currently in Abeche, and, with UNPOL assistance, they have started day and night patrols of the city. As of November 5, 27 police officers were deployed to Goz Beida. Lacking accommodation, six of the 27 returned to Abeche by the following day. Subsequent field deployments for November include: -- 50 DIS to Goz Beida -- 50 DIS to Farchana -- 50 DIS to Iriba -- Unknown number to Guereda -- Requests were made for DIS deployment to Koukou and Guereda, but the GOC is undecided between Guereda, Dogdore and Koukou for the final tranche of DIS deployment. ¶3. At a November 14 briefing in Ndjamena, MINURCAT reported that as of November 14, approximately 480 DIS officers had been trained, of which roughly 110 had deployed to the field. ¶4.
