Dear Sirs:
As you know, numerous allegations have been made regarding
responsibility
for the violence which has occurred throughout the country.
As part of our continuing efforts to support efforts to achieve
peace, it is
important that we have the fullest possible information regarding
the
violence.
In that regard, I respectfully request:
-All information of whatever nature may be available regarding those
responsible for violence.
-All information on steps that have been taken, publicly and
privately,
to end violence.
I take this opportunity to reiterate our strong support for the
efforts of the
African Union eminent persons group, headed by Kofi Annan, to help
end violence
and facilitate dialogue in an effort to work out a political
solution to the
elections crisis.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Ranneberger
United States Ambassador
