(C) Pol-Econ Chief delivered ref A and C demarches on October
13 to Mohammed al-Hassan, Director of Political Affairs for
Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusef bin Alawi.
Al-Hassan responded that Oman had a strong interest in
stability and development in Afghanistan and hoped that the
situation in the country would improve. He also took careful
note of what assistance we were requesting from other GCC
countries and promised to pass our request directly to
Minister bin Alawi. Al-Hassan did not, however, indicate
what support, if any, Oman might be willing to provide for
either the Afghan National Army or elections in Afghanistan.
