REF: STATE 67980
On June 30, Econoff delivered reftel demarche to Dr. Said
al-Riyami, Economic Expert, Ministry of Commerce and
Industry. Riyami expressed appreciation for the documents
provided, and agreed that it was important for Oman to ensure
that the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) revisions to its
draft trademark law address discrepancies with the
Sultanate's free trade obligations. To this end, Riyami told
Econoff that Oman has already indicated to the GCC that its
own law would take precedence over the GCC's should the
latter not meet the standards of the U.S.-Oman Free Trade
Agreement.
