Presently the World Hope International project focuses on building service-provider networks and raising awareness about human trafficking. This proposal will continue their current work on educating the community, networking, and creating programs that will provide direct and immediate care for survivors of trafficking in persons. END SUMMARY -------------- Solicitation 1 -------------- ¶A. Name of Application: World Hope International ¶B. Requested funding amount: 633,580.00 USD ¶C. Project Title: Trafficking in Persons Prevention and Protection Project-Liberia ¶D. Project duration: 2 years ¶E. Proposal Abstract: Liberia is a source, transit, and destination for survivors of trafficking in persons (TIP). It is also plagued with domestic trafficking, primarily of children from rural to urban areas. Trafficking through the very porous West African borders has also been recognized. Having recently emerged from 14 years of conflict when most of the country's population was at some point displaced, Liberia is struggling to restore social as well as basic infrastructure. Survivors of TIP have been identified in Liberia, but few services are available to meet their care needs. Survivors are, for the most part, unencumbered by organized crime dangers, but do need comprehensive services to return to healthy life in Liberian society. World Hope International (WHI) and the Salvation Army World Service Office (as a Faith Alliance Against Slavery and Trafficking [FAAST] project),propose to conduct a two-year program to prevent TIP and protect trafficking survivors, building on our current work in the existing Department of State funded TIP Prevention Project in Liberia. The proposed program will organize and educate community groups about TIP, equipping them to protect their own communities against traffickers; educate local service providers and law enforcement about TIP and appropriate responses; network community groups, service providers and law enforcement at the local level to create effective and accountable referral mechanisms; and provide direct and immediate care for survivors of TIP This project will encourage comprehensive and improved services for survivors in Liberia, as well as training for service providers, government and law enforcement agencies, and community members so that they will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to identify and provide services for survivors long beyond the life of the grant.
