1. (SBU) Poloff encouraged Mexico per Ref (A) to support the
candidacy of Ambassador Swing for IOM General Secretary in
speaking May 22 to the Deputy Director General for UN-Related
Security and Legal Issues at the Foreign Secretariat (SRE),
Julian Juarez Cadenas. Juarez noted that the U.S. Permanent
Mission in Geneva had already raised this issue with the
Mexican Mission there. Juarez said that he would consult
with other officials at SRE on Mexico's opinion of the
candidacy. Embassy will report as appropriate any future
response.
