The Government of Mozambique has applied for a Credit from the IDA, a Grant from Global Environment Facility and PHRD Grant from the Government of Japan, toward the costs of the Trans-frontier Conservation Areas and Tourism Development Project (TFCATDP). The project encompasses a series of activities to be implemented in three Trans-frontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) in the country: Limpopo, Lubombo and Chimanimani. The Banhine National Park (BNP) covers 5,600 km2 and is located in Gaza province. The BNP was historically rich in large animals, including elephants and other plain ungulates such as zebra, wildebeest and eland. However, from the early 1960s the capture of specimens for international zoos, commercial hunting, subsistence hunting, and poor management capacities largely depleted the numbers and distribution of animals. The BNP was first established in 1973 for the conservation of fauna and flora and especially for the protection of ostrich and giraffe, the latter of which is currently eradicated in the area. The Zinave National Park (ZNP) covers 4000 km2 and was historically rich in large animals including elephants, zebra, wildebeest and eland. The ZNP was first established in 1973 for the conservation of fauna and flora and especially for the protection of important species such as ostrich, giraffe, zebra and topi. Unfortunately both giraffe and zebra are currently eradicated in the area. ¶8. The main objectives of this consultancy are: to obtain the full revision of the existing Management Plans not accepted by DNAC and therefore not implemented; and to prepare a Tourism and Business Plan for BNP and ZNP using a participative methodology involving all relevant stakeholders related to the management of theses protected areas, including communities living in and around the park. The TFCA Unit is the implementing agency for the project under which the services are required and now invites eligible consultancy firms to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consulting firms must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc). Consultancy firms may associate to enhance their qualifications. Consultancy firms will be selected in accordance with the procedures set out in the World Bank's Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (edition May 2004, revised October 2006). ¶9. Interested consultants may obtain a full set of the Terms of Reference at the above mentioned address during office hours (from 8:00 to 15:30 hours - local time). Expressions of interest must be delivered by September 15, 2008. ¶10.
