Ambassador raised the issue of Kosovo's status on January 9
with Acting Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo, outlining that
the time has come to solve the issue of Kosovo's status, and
that the plan developed initially under the direction of UN
Special Envoy Martti Ahtisaari (the "Ahtisaari Plan") offered
the best hope of long-term stability in the region. Acting
Foreign Secretary Manalo promised to give the matter careful
consideration. Poloffs also met with working-level contacts
at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and
outlined reftel B demarche points. Post will continue to
follow up with DFAT to press for a positive outcome.
