(U) DCM delivered reftel demarche to the newly appointed Secretary of State for Trade, Silvia Iranzo Gutierrez, on 5/19/08. Iranzo chairs the Spanish government's interagency committee that reviews exports to Iran. She indicated her willingness to work with us on this and other issues. EconOff also delivered reftel demarche to the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade's Subdirector General for EU trade policy (who in turn promised to share the reftel paper with other relevant working level officials) on 5/20/08. EconOff is also sharing the paper with the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs office. The Embassy's Commercial Service is determining what Spanish companies produce the products of concern mentioned in reftel with a view to determining what additional action might be warranted. Aguirre
