l. (S) On October 3, Econoff delivered ref A demarche
concerning UNSC Resolution 1835 and the importance of
vigorous implementation of UN resolutions pertaining to Iran,
and ref B demarche concerning designation of Islamic Republic
of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) with accompanying press
releases, to Iago Losada Maseda, an official in the Ministry
of External Affairs, Directorate General for International
Affairs of Terrorism, which coordinates designations and
sanctions.
¶2. (S) Losada said he would distribute the information to
intelligence and counter-proliferation officials in the GOS
as well as to the Ministries of Industry, Tourism, and
Commerce and Economy and Finance. He indicated that the
information on IRISL was particularly interesting and useful
to the GOS. Losada advised that there is a growing concern
within the GOS about Iran,s non-compliance with UNSC
resolutions and recognition that some further action will be
needed. He urged Econoff to continue to share designations
and other Iran-related information.
¶3. (U) Post will follow up with other GOS agencies and will
report any further response.
