1. (C) HMG is currenly in the process of determining the
amount of its pledge to Year Two of the Special Tribunal for
Lebanon, FCO Levant Group Head Benjamin Saoul told us
December 15 in response to reftel demarche. The exact amount
of the contribution will not be decided until early 2009,
Saoul said, but it will not be as high as the UK's Year One
pledge of approximately USD 1,000,000. The money will come
from existing funds for Lebanon that must also include
training for the Lebanese Armed Forces and the police, so it
will be a matter of prioritization among those tasks, Saoul
said.
2. Tripoli minimize considered.
