(C) On September 28, emboff met with Gaja Peric, Desk Officer
in the Slovenian MFA's Security Policy Division, to ask for
Slovenian donations to sustain the Afghan National Army (ANA)
(reftel A). Peric said that Slovenia supported the ANA
expansion, but could not commit to donating right now. She
reiterated her comments from a previous meeting (reftel B),
explaining that Slovenia is evaluating its approach to trust
funds in order to find a proper balance between its regional
commitments, such as in Kosovo, and its wider NATO
commitments, such as in Afghanistan. Peric said that
Slovenia could not commit to a position on its role in any
multidonor fund for ANA expansion until it completes that
evaluation.
