(C) On September 11, emboff delivered demarche (reftel) on
the proposed ISAF OPLAN amendment to Gaja Peric, Desk Officer
in the Slovenian MFA's Security Policy Division, to encourage
Slovenian support for the US position. Peric said that she
and her MoD colleagues are aware of several proposals to
expand the ISAF's counternarcotics authorities that have been
floated in the NAC, but Slovenia does not have an official
position at this point. Peric acknowledged that the Afghans
cannot succeed in the interdiction effort by themselves, but
Slovenia, like some other Allies, is cautious about the
possible expansion of responsibilities.
