(C) On September 9, emboff met Gaja Peric, Desk Officer in
the Slovenian MFA's Security Policy
Division, to encourage Slovenian support for the proposed
expansion of the Afghan National Army (ANA) (reftel A).
Peric said that Slovenia supported the ANA expansion, as
current ANA soldiers had proven to be capable in cooperation
with the ISAF. She commented that Slovenia has donated
equipment and ammunition through the existing trust fund for
the ANA (reftel C),and supports the creation of a multidonor
fund to help fund expansion. She noted, however, that
Slovenia is evaluating its approach to trust funds since it
wants to maintain its primary focus on the western Balkans.
She concluded that Slovenia could not commit to a position on
its role in any multidonor fund for ANA expansion until
Slovenia settles its internal debate about managing
priorities.
