1. (C) On August 6, Emboff met with Leon Marc, head of the
MFA's Division for Southeast Europe, to urge the Government
of Slovenia (GOS) not to prematurely lift the EU travel
restrictions on the Karadzic family and to coordinate with
the USG and the OHR in Bosnia on any changes to the
sanctions against PIFWCs and their support networks,
reftel. Marc admitted that the GoS had not yet considered
the issue, but undertook to check with the MFA's consular
division to determine whether the Karadzic family was on
the ban list. He also said he would check with the Slovene
Embassy in BiH as well as its Mission in Brussels. He
suggested that the USG press the Commission as he predicted
there would be an EU common position on the issue.
