NUCLEAR DAMAGE - SLOVENIA DOES NOT INTEND TO RATIFY

Post took action directed by reftel and Directorate for
Foreign Economic Relations representative Ales Gorisek at the
Ministry of Economy informed Emboff that the Government of
Slovenia (GOS) does not intend to ratify the Convention on
Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage (CSC). Gorisek
stated that the GOS agrees the CSC is a step in the right
direction, but the GOS revised its domestic legislation to be
in line with the Paris Convention/Brussels Supplementary
Convention regime (PC/BSC),of which it is a Contracting
Party. Gorisek explained that the two main reasons that the
GOS joined the PC/BSC are the higher amounts of operator's
liability and the requirement to have and maintain insurance
or other financial security in such amounts. Gorisek
emphasized that for the GOS, the PC/BSC regime represents a
solid solution and, for the time being, the GOS does not plan
to join the CSC.
